Darkest Dungeon [PC Game Review]

Well the Steam Summer Sale is over... but I did grab a few more things before it ended.
This is the review for one of them.
This is the review for Darkest Dungeon.

Stress relief, it's more than just humorous encounters in Darkest Dungeon.
It keeps you from murdering your fellow party members. That's important.
"Ruin has come to our family. You remember our venerable house? Opulent and imperial, gazing proudly from its stoic perch above the moor. I lived all my years in that ancient rumour shadowed manor."

5 out of 5 stars
From the very first word of the introductory cinematic (click to watch it), I was hooked. This game is an amazing Lovecraftian feeling classic RPG, with all that entails.
Sometimes when stress gets too much you just lose all hope.

This means horrors, stress, unimaginable dangers, darkness that eats at the very soul (of your party), cultists, undead, abominations, and more. Even the town at the foot of your lands is little more than a creepy shadow enshrouded decaying hamlet.

The game play is simple.
It can also make you say and do things that are just not
'right' or 'normal.'
Gather a party, buy requisitions, and venture into the depths surrounding and beneath the manor. Try not to die or go insane. That is far harder than it seems.

The game warns you at the outset that you will lose party members. I've lost almost a dozen so far. Your party is fighting not only the denizens that infest the dungeons, but the darkness, hunger, traps, curiosity, and themselves as the delve into the depths.

This is the standard game view, a side scrolling RPG style.
I have to admit, that I am a sucker for Lovecraftian style horror. I am not a fan of modern gore horror, or shock horror... but the psychological ebbing horror of Lovecraft, the kind that slowly builds, eating into your psyche, that I love. This game fulfills that love so well.

It's not expensive, and it was even less in the sale. And it was worth it. I nabbed a few other things, but aside from Cities Skylines, nothing as amazing as the Darkest Dungeon.

Did you know that this was the result of a Kickstarter? I didn't until I looked some stuff up.
Wish I could been in on the KS. I wonder what nifty unlockables they got...

Anyways, I encourage you to grab this game. Even if you are determined to wait until it goes on sale again, add it to your Steam wishlist. It is worth it.
