Recently I watched a couple of older movies that I'd kinda wanted to see: The Watch and 47 Ronin. Neither are considered to be great movies, in fact they were considered to be the opposite of that.

Doctor Who - Last Christmas [TV Christmas Special Review]
Best Christmas Tradition. Ever.
No, I'm quite serious. I love watching the Doctor Who Christmas specials.
This year the special would include Nick Frost... as Santa. Best Santa casting. Ever.

The Devil is a Part-Timer [Anime Review]
It has been a while since I've watched a dubbed anime series.
However I accidentally began watching this in English, and I always associate the first voice I hear with the character. I did check out the Japanese because I wanted to see if both the English and the Japanese language dubs had the same 'other world language.'

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies [Movie Review]
At long last the final chapter of The Hobbit comes to a close. It has been three long years. Somehow Peter Jackson was able to take one book and spread it across three films, a feat unparallelled in Hollywood thus far.

The Newsroom Season 3 [TV Review]
Sunday the 14th of December, 2014, was the season and series finale of The Newsroom. This was Aaron Sorkin's most recent television masterpiece, and masterpiece it was.

Maoyu [Anime Review]
Finally another update this week.
This time I'm reviewing a wonderful intelligent anime called Maoyu. Also sometimes called Maoyuu Maou Yuusha (Literally Demon King and Hero), まおゆう魔王勇者, or sometimes called Maoyu - Archenemy and Hero. Oh, and I'll use just about any excuse to use any type of kana in these posts it seems.

I did not see this movie in theaters.
I did not buy this movie.
I watched a friend's copy.
I felt the need to explain before continuing this review...

Transmetropolitan [Comic Book Review]
If you've been following my blog for any amount of time, you will know that in general I am ignorant of most non-manga comics. My experiences with Marvel and DC and really only come from the movies. This comic, Transmetropolitan, is one of the few I have actually read.

Pretear [Dusty Shelf Anime Review]
It's time again for another Dusty Shelf Review. I have lots of unwatched movies and anime littering my shelves. They will all eventually get watched, and then reviewed. This installment is an anime from 2001 / 2005 (Japan / USA) called Pretear.

Dragon Age Inquisition [PS4 Review]
I've had this game for a week, and put almost ten hours into it.
I think I'm ready to write a review, despite the fact that I've kept on playing both Civ Beyond Earth and Destiny. And that is just for video games... someday I'll have to post up a paint blog about some of the minis games I play aside from X-Wing as those need no paint.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 [Movie Review]
Does every single YA book to movie series require a two part final movie?
Did it begin with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? I know it happened with Twilight (still the worst A-list movies I've ever seen), and it is happening with Divergent's Allegiance (also a really bad movie). I have no idea if the Maze Runner series will end the same way...

From the New World (Shin Sekai Yori) [Anime Review]
I really had no idea about this anime before I sat down to watch it. The tag line does not tell you much at all, and in fact may be very misleading. "When your whole world is a lie... Truth can be the deadliest weapon of all."

Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth [PC Game]
I assume that a good majority of people reading this have played Civ V. Now, I could be wrong but I imagine that most people picking up the science fiction centered Beyond Earth would have played the predecessor game.

Doctor Who series 8 - Death in Heaven (episode 12) [TV Review]
Radio Times poster, really do love these. |
I just did not want to end this season on such a note, I did not want it to come to this.

Interstellar [Movie Review]
I consider this movie to be the spiritual successor to 2001: A Space Odyssey. However the parallels are not that great nor are they heavy handed. In essence, Christopher Nolan (director of the most recent Batman Trilogy) has crafted an epic science movie. So epic that I was actually getting worried over the hyper about the film. Over-hyped movies have a tendency to let one down.

Doctor Who series 8 - Dark Water (episode 11) [TV Review]
I know that this blog post is late. I was laid low with food poisoning, and that sucks. So I missed several updates but this one had to be done. I will not miss an episode of Doctor Who.

It felt good. This one really felt like going back to the old school giant robot genre.

FURY [Movie Review]
This may be the first movie in decades that I've actually gone with my father to see in a theater. He likes historical movies, but usually has no interest in actually going to the 'over-priced' theaters. And of course the seniors discount (a whole amazing $0.25 - wow!) was somewhat insulting.

Star Wars Rebels [TV Review]
Well if I have to give anything to Disney for their acquisition of Lucas Film, and the Star Wars franchise, it will be this. They will produce it. They will milk that IP for everything it can produce, and since it is in a Galaxy that is Far Far away, there is a lot of territory to cover.

A Certain Scientific Railgun S [Anime Review]
This series is the sequel to A Certain Scientific Railgun, a series set in the same world as A Certain Magical Index (which also has a sequel). I'm not certain, but I think the Japanese title sounds better. Ignoring the morass of complex kanji (とある科学の超電磁砲), it reads as Toaru Kagaku no Rērugan.

Ninja Nonsense [Dusty Shelf Anime Review]
I flipped to the back of the last DVD of Ninja Nonsense to check the copyright. 2004 for the original work, and 2006 for the RightStuff DVD. I would bet money that this has just be sitting on my shelf gathering dust for 8 years. Good thing I finally got around to watching it.

To Love Ru Darkness [Anime Review]
I'm actually shocked that a factoid about this anime escaped me. The name of the series, To Love Ru is actually the English word Trouble. ToRabuRu, right up there in hiragana, is the Japanese phonetic (is that the right word in this situation?) pronunciation of Trouble.

The Maze Runner [Movie Review]
The Doctor Who series 8 review has been postponed. It will be up on Monday. My apologies. However, it has been postponed to review yet another of these movies being made from wildly popular YA book series. Somehow, and this is most likely a good thing, I've never read a single one of them.

I appears that I'm quite slow to review highly games that were, at one time, highly anticipated.
Perhaps the problem that I have is a desire to complete most games before writing a review. I've finished Watchdogs, now for that aforementioned review.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire [Movie Review]
I avoided seeing this movie in theaters for one major reason. I saw the first The Hunger Games in theaters, and the cinematography gave me a headache. No, I'm not being facetious. The cinematography in The Hunger Games might have been some of the worst, if not the worst, cinematography I've ever seen in a A-list movie.

Ok. I bet you were shocked that I did not write a review about Doctor Who series 8 last week. You should have been. However I needed more time to process Peter Capaldi's take on the Doctor. So this is a bonus review! I'm going to review episodes one and two from series 8.

Godzilla (aka: Zilla) 1998: Rifftrax Live Fathom Event (Rifftrax Event)
Man do I love seeing Mike, Bill, and Kevin on stage on a movie screen.
That, I suppose, is why I go and see everyone of their live shows even if the movie is as outrageously terrible as Sharknado. The riffing alone can drag a terrible movie into the light and make it watchable.

It seems that there are lots of movies being made based off of books I've never heard of or even read. The books are often acclaimed as 'World Wide Best Sellers,' or something. Now I am a reader. I've done book reviews (Words of Radiance, Memories of Light, etc.) but these all escape me.
