Genshiken Nidaime [Anime Review]

Welcome back to yet another Genshiken review. This time it's the most recent season, Nidaime.

The Nidaime Club Room.
I'm still a bit upset that they have never fully animated the part of the first series where Sasahara and Ogiue begin their relationship. I really feel that the anime audience is missing a very important arc. It really shows the depth of their characters... and it is still not animated. WHY?

4 out of 4 stars

Sue is now a main character. Excellent!
Genshiken Nidaime (lit. second generation) carries on with the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. However many of the older crew have graduated, and an entire new crew, the second generation, joins. Most of these new members are girls, and they are fujoshi (rotten women - ie: they enjoy yaoi couplings). If you do not understand all the terms I'm using... you will not get this anime.

Angela is not, but she does show up again.
It continues the story from the first two series, and explores new and different forms that being an otaku can take.

But it's not that simple. This series deals with some very important issues. Bullying, prejudice, acceptance, isolation, self-pity, cowardice, and more. It is a very good series, very powerful. There are some silly down times, and some bits that are just fun to watch. However it really does deal with a lot of issues.

Boldly going where no* anime has gone before. (*or few).
The final few episodes are just amazing.
Absolutely amazing. Moving even.

However there is one thing I am not certain about.

Where does Nidaime line up when compared to the manga. There appear to be 6 manga volumes out in Japan, and 4 in the states. Genshiken Nidaime goes beyond volume 4... but how far? I'd say maybe only through volume 5...

So who knows, maybe someday they will animate the missing scenes from the first Genshiken, and then continue Nidaime. I'd like that.

Genshiken 2 review here.

I understand Madarame. Probably more than I should.
