Noucome [Anime Review]

My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with My School Romantic Comedy
Welcome to a review for what may be the longest titled anime ever. I'm not certain, but the length of the title is absolutely insane. Here it is in Japanese, 俺の脳内選択肢が、学園ラブコメを全力で邪魔している,... which is just a mouthful.

Yes, but not usually as insane as these...
That massive string of kanji and kana says, in Romanji, Ore nounai sentakushi ga Gakuen rabucome o Zenryoku de Jama shiteiru. Enjoy.

4.5 out of 5 stars
A whirlwind of bad choices.
I'm not certain any anime has ever had such a ridiculously long title. In English or in Japanese it borders on impossible to correctly remember. I can understand how it came to get the nickname of Noucome, which I think means 'Brain Comedy,' just working from the Japanese. Since the 'nou' in 'Noucome' (のうコメ) seems to be from this kanji () which means brain. It could also mean Mental / Intellectual Comedy I suppose...

Enough on the title.
Instead have some Spoilers!

Incoming call from 'Flippant God.'
Welcome to the world of Amakusa Kanade and his curse. Kanade is suffering from a very strange curse called Absolute Choice (絶対選択肢 Zettai Sentakushi). His life has taken on the style of a a dating sim. He goes through his day and suddenly a deep voice will shout out, where only he can hear it, "Erabe!" (選ぶ). Which appears to be a colloquial term meaning "Choose!" or "Select!"

Before his eyes will spin two or more terrible choices. They are often inappropriate, illegal, or just plain disturbing. But he has to choice one or else he suffers terrible piercing pain.
Absolute Choice strikes again.

He really want to be get rid of this curse, and one day a strange choice pops up in front of him. One of the options is "a beautiful girl falls from the sky." He chooses that one, and exactly as described, a girl plummets from the sky and lands on him. The girls turns out to have been sent from 'God' to help cure Kanade of his curse... there's just one problem, she can't remember how.

--- End Spoilers! ---
Breaking the fourth wall a little bit.

This is an absolutely hilarious romantic comedy series. With a handful of main characters and another helping of secondary characters, you never get lost with them. The rest of the class are just there to react to the idiocy forced upon Kanade.

And again, take that wall!
Now this is a Romantic Comedy, so there is a little bit of fan service, a lot of cute girls, and one oblivious boy. In fact some of the humor is derived from being self-referential, or at least genre-referential.

This series has another added bonus, it has a lot of repeated words. This is nice if you want to expand your Japanese vocab. There is a catch, many of the words repeated are at least a little bit rude.

I wholeheartedly recommend this series.
It is a lot of fun, excellent animation, and the title alone is just insane. It has to get points for the most verbose title ever.

This is worth your time.
