Helix "Cross Pollination" (Season 2, Ep. 7) [TV Review]

Here we are again, Friday night, another episode of Helix down. Only four more to go. This episode had another one of the dull titles, "Cross Pollination." That has nothing on Densho, San Jose, or Oubliette.

Bonjour! 1601, what a year.
Which makes me sad. I really don't get to talk about the title. I like to unravel the meaning in the titles. Scion was straight forward, Reunion was the same... and so is this one. This one is simple.

3.5 out of 5 stars
That is a small step up from the last few episodes. It should be applauded for that. It did some good things, so quite good things, and some terribly bad things.

As usual, I want to give credit to the good.

Giving us Brother Micheal's back story was good. Going back to 1601 was interesting, and after already dealing with other time jumps (30 years), going back 414 years was not a problem. And giving him a French background, for some reason, I really liked that. Maybe it's because of the new-ish Musketeers TV show, or something...

It is a bloody 'thing.' Nice and indistinct, and bloody.
Creepy tooth extraction. I've been thinking about this since early in this season... but how the hell do you extract a tooth with that much nerve? That is both creepy and physiologically disturbing.

Ding Ding Ding! Baggage!
[SPOILER] Unhappy stories with unhappy endings. Points here for Sara's story. She tells the little boy the story of the child who wears the Superman cape to fight off disease, and the she lies that he recovers. Then later the boy she told the story to wears the cape... and it almost looks like it will save him since he trips and spills. But no... just like the other boy... there is no Superman. [END SPOILER]

'Texas' leaving the creepy jack-off girl in the glass case. Complete and total win.

But the bad... ugh.

She is just a blood bank.
The overused tropes. Going back to Texas, did he really have to do the bump when he is hiding. That is jut overused. Why can't we actually have characters that are able to hide without making noise. Overused.

Sara seems to be this series's Worf.
Hold on, let me explain. In Star Trek TNG, if you needed to prove a villain was a strong bad-ass you had him beat up Worf. Worf was TNG's whipping boy. In this, if you need someone to be injured, to bleed, to have a life threatening wound, to suffer a trauma... you use Sara. She's immortal now, so we can just abuse her. It's taken on a creepy tone at this point.

I would like to point out that last week, in M. Domestica, I talked about how this series did a good job evoking the whole feeling of Jones Town or Waco? I'd just like to say this: "Called It!"

Well, now to wait for next week... which will probably be delayed, because I think CHAPPiE is new in theaters then.
