Yusibu [Anime Review]

There have been a string of anime about heroes, demons, etc. getting real world jobs. I'm thinking about things like The Devil is a Part-Timer, and sorta Maoyu (okay, that is a bit of a stretch). This is a lot like the Devil is a Part-Timer, only the roles are swapped.

From sword wielding hero to register jockey...
This anime also has something in common with Noucome. It too has an insanely long title that became shortened. Yusibu is short for Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku o Ketsui Shimashita. Yeah... I know why that was shortened.

4.5 out of 5 stars
You can read the translation right up there on the main poster image. The title is sort of the plot of the first 5 minutes of the first episode.
An experience we've all had. Everyone does the Vader Voice.

Nice greeting.
Our Hero-in-Training, Raul Chaser, has just completed his training when he and his party members learn that the Demon King has been defeated. There is no more need for heroes. The training school is shut down, weapons shops close, armourers close. Victory came at a cost. So Raul gets a job working at a magic goods store called Reon. Work is slow as people have not really adapted to a world where magic is used for refrigerators, cameras, and hair dryers.

Then comes the day when a new employee is hired. Her name is Fino Bloodstone, and in his innocence Raul does not realize that she is female. More importantly she is the daughter of the deceased Demon King. She is more than a little socially challenged in the human world.

This is their story.

Out of context this whole scene is just wrong.
It's actually a very funny, very sweet series. It was too short, of course, as most of these 12 episode long anime turn out to be. Yes there is an omake episode, but the series itself could have been longer. I wanted more.

The real conflict begins around eight episodes in, and you feel that there are certain plot elements that are not used fully. There is another conflict that needs resolving that is obviously a long term conflict. We do not see it resolved, as it could not be resolved in such a short time. There is also a budding romance... which of course is not resolved.

I really wanted more. Hopefully the anime only covered a few of the manga / light novels so eventually we'll get a second season. I have no grounds to base this upon aside from wildly unfounded hope.

This is a nice short anime that is certainly worth watching. It fits right in with the three anime I listed before, all of which were also really fun short series. My suggestion - watch this anime.

  1. I can also see the reason why Yisibu's original name was shortened. It's even longer than My Teen Romantic Comedy is Wrong As I Expected. Cassandra @ The Huge Anime Fan blog
